Terms of Use

Last updated September 27, 2026

The short version. Your notes belong to you. Keep your own backups. Restaurant details come from other sources and may be out of date. Purchases go through Apple.

1. Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Eric McLeish ("we", "us") for your use of the Taste Notes app and this website. By downloading or using Taste Notes you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

2. Your license to use the app

We give you a personal, non-transferable license to use Taste Notes on Apple devices you own or control, as allowed by the App Store's Usage Rules. You may not copy, modify, resell or reverse-engineer the app except where the law allows it.

3. Your content

The restaurants, ratings, notes, photos and other information you add ("your content") belong to you. Because your content is stored on your device, we don't need or claim any rights to it. You're responsible for what you add, including making sure you have the right to use any photos.

4. Backups and data loss

Your content is stored on your device. It can be lost if your phone is lost, damaged or reset, or if the app is deleted. Taste Notes includes a backup feature so you can keep your own copies, and we encourage you to use it regularly. We aren't responsible for lost content.

5. Restaurant information

Restaurant names, addresses, phone numbers, hours and search results may come from Apple Maps or from what you enter. This information can be incomplete or out of date. Ratings in Taste Notes are your own opinions and aren't reviews or endorsements by us. Always check with the restaurant about allergies, dietary needs, discounts and opening times.

6. Purchases and subscriptions

Paid features are sold through the Apple App Store and are subject to Apple's terms. Prices are shown in the App Store before you buy.

Features and limits of each plan may change over time. We won't remove features from a Lifetime purchase that were included when you bought it, except where required by law, by Apple, or because a third-party service the feature depends on is no longer available.

7. Acceptable use

Please don't use Taste Notes to break the law, infringe anyone's rights, or interfere with the app or the services it relies on.

8. Changes and updates

We may update, change or discontinue features. Some updates may be needed to keep using the app. If we change these terms we'll update the date above, and your continued use means you accept the new terms.

9. Disclaimer

Taste Notes is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise the app will be error-free or uninterrupted.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, arising from your use of Taste Notes. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

11. Apple

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and isn't responsible for any claims relating to the app. If the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple for a refund of the purchase price, if any. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Iowa, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where your local consumer protection law says otherwise.
