The short version. Taste Notes stores your restaurants, visits, dish ratings, notes and photos on your iPhone. There is no account, no advertising and no tracking. We don't collect your information on our servers.
Who we are
Taste Notes is an iPhone app published by Eric McLeish ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app uses and what happens to it.
Information you add to the app
When you use Taste Notes you may add:
- Restaurants, including names, addresses, phone numbers, websites and your status for each (Want to Try, Visited or Favorite)
- Visits, the dishes you ordered, ratings, notes, ordering tips and tags
- Photos of dishes that you take or choose
- The first names of people you dine with, if you choose to record them
This information is stored in the app on your device. It is not sent to us, and we can't see it.
Location
If you allow it, Taste Notes uses your location while the app is open to sort your saved restaurants by distance and to find restaurants near you. Nearby searches are made through Apple Maps, so the search and your approximate location are sent to Apple to return results. Apple's handling of that information is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. We don't receive or store your location.
You can turn off location access at any time in the iPhone Settings app. Everything else in Taste Notes keeps working.
Camera and photos
Taste Notes uses the camera only when you choose to take a photo of a dish, and reads only the photos you pick. Photos are saved inside the app on your device.
Backups
You can create a backup file from Settings. You decide where that file goes, such as the Files app, iCloud Drive or AirDrop, and the service you choose handles it under its own terms. Your iPhone's own device backup may also include Taste Notes data, depending on your Apple settings.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
Taste Notes has no advertising and no third-party analytics, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports that help us fix bugs. They don't include your notes or photos.
Purchases
Any purchases in Taste Notes are processed by Apple through the App Store. We don't receive your payment details. Apple tells us only what we need to unlock what you bought.
Children
Taste Notes is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Deleting your information
You can delete any restaurant, visit, dish or photo in the app. Deleting the app removes its data from your iPhone. Backup files you've saved elsewhere are yours to delete.
Future features
Features such as syncing across devices are planned. If a future version stores information on our servers, we'll update this policy before that feature is released, explain what is stored and why, and let you choose whether to use it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
